Dear members of the European Association of Oral Medicine
The exciting and inspiring days of the Zagreb congress are over but will not be forgotten. The local organising committee, the scientific committee and as well as the board including the past president, Prof. Antonio Carrassi, did a wonderful job. Many thanks again, Zagreb has been a great event both from the point of view of science and friendship.
Looking forward means that we are now preparing the Salzburg meeting in 2008, organised by Johann Beck-Managetta. Looking forward also means that we have to strengthen the contacts between us, particularly in the field of research.
In the future, research networks between institutions of different nations will be of increasing importance, mainly due to limited financial resources, worldwide. Some of us are already involved in European Union projects and that I think is the way to go. To do research in isolated individual institutions will be less meaningful and less important. In other words: we have to reach out to each other to combine our efforts to come up with significant research results. The much discussed globalisation will also take place in the field of oral and cranio-mandibular research including our own field: Oral Medicine. We all have to be aware of this and we should not miss the chance.
In this regard, the board of the EAOM will try to do its level best to make this society grow and prosper.
Wishing you all the best.
Peter A. Reichart
President
