This unique program addresses the acute and chronic, oral and dental needs of medically complex patients, with focus on oncology and immunosuppressed patients.
The focus is on the medical and allied health considerations for evaluation, diagnosis, and comprehensive management of the patients with oral and head and neck mucosal disease including oral premalignant conditions, oral cancer and oral complications of cancer therapy, oral infections, symptoms including orofacial pain, and salivary gland disease. Dental care is provided to medically complex patients.
The program will introduce the fellow to scientific research (laboratory, clinical or translational). The Institute of Medicine, the US Surgeon General, and the National Institute of Health have emphasized the need for programs of this kind. Temporary licensure for the fellows can be obtained.
