Dog dandruff has usually been indicated in cases of noticeable flaking and itching on domestic dogs. This is the more common in breeds with relatively short hairs. Dog dandruff is known to the veterinarians as Pityriasis Capitis. It occurs primarily from the reproduction and replacement of old skin cells which pushes dead skin cells to the outermost surface of the dog’s skin. It is the accumulation of these that causes dog dandruff.
Dandruff only becomes something to worry about when it becomes excessive. What I mean is that some little amount of dandruff on a dog is expected so there is no need to panic about that. However, there exists a more serious form of dog dandruff which combines excessiveness and inflammation of the skin. This is referred to as Canine Seborrheic Dermatitis. Another thing to note about this is that it is more common in puppies.
This form of dog dermatitis has symptoms quite similar to the better known dandruff. Watch out for these major indicators:
Increased and sustained scratching
Presence of dog hot spots
Profuse flaking accompanied with an occurrence of whitish hackles or dander. Note that this may go on for several minutes as against the normal temporal appearance of dander on dog skins in moments of anxiety.
Crusty or oily patches most noticeable around the anus
The next line of action should be prompt treatment especially in the case of dog dermatitis. Like in humans too, and also in every pet, never foreclose the option of a veterinarian. A more severe infection should be referred to the vet doctor immediately while the less severe ones may be handled at home.
Get a medicated or therapeutic dog shampoo. The most recommended for dog dermatitis is one with an aloe vera or oatmeal base. The reason isn’t farfetched: this provides a moisturising effect as it provides just the perfect pH balance. Also look out for Zinc-pca as this has an inhibiting effect on the production of dandruff and oil patches. It has been shown to act against flaking as well as having antibacterial properties. Under no condition should you use human shampoo or other anti-dandruff treatments. Get some digestive enzymes into the dog’s foods also as they regulate the production of skin cells thus reducing the frequent occurrence of dead skin cells.
If this condition still persists after a couple of thorough shampoo washes, you may have to get in touch with your veterinary doctor as this may not actually be any of the aforementioned problems. It may indicate the existence of a dog skin allergy or an infection of Candida yeast.
Again, be warned that your choice of shampoo is very important. Do not underestimate or overlook this as this may even be adding to the problem of your dog while you think you are stripping it of a burden. The pH in a human shampoo is not commensurate with that needed by a dog. This may expose the dog to more irritations and skin diseases. At a higher risk are the paws and the ears.

Scalp pimples are very much common type of problem for those people who are not totally aware of the cleanness of the head and the skin. If pimples appear on the face then we can treat them by some sort of lesser treatment and pimples are very common on the scalp. Most of the people think that pimple on the head skin are some sort of trifling matter but can cause great problem if they are ignored by avoiding the proper treatment of scalp pimples. Sometime people like to take some cosmetic products with the common belief of cosmetic products are fully eligible for hair and skin problem treatment. But the real fact is that cosmetic products are not ok at all this time and you may in serious problem because these cosmetic products as they dry out the normal skin your head. In the long turn you may be a victim of severe hair problem with no growth of the hair and scalp. Hair is a sensitive matter for us and it is not so easy to treat the problems on the head as the hair is on the head any kind of wrong decision can harm hair to a great extent. All of the cases people use the benzoyl peroxide as the treatment of hair problems, but this time it will be a wrong decision as the benzoyl peroxide is a bleaching agent and can bleach you hair to some extent. Winter is just not about warm clothes or fireside reading. It is time to battle the cold winds that hampers your body. A little care will keep the wintry troubles at bay.Your skin texture depends not only on external treatments, but also on the intake. A proper nutritious intake helps in rejuvenating the skin from within. Fruits and vegetables in your daily diet release a lot of water to your system. Primrose syrup and olive oil in your diet also aids in softening your skin.v Moisturize More: Moisturizers and cold creams are a must in the winters. You may have found a moisturizer that works just fine in spring and summer. But as weather conditions change, so, too, should your skin care routine. Apply some good cold cream on your face before going to bed. Moisten your skin with a good moisturizer or a creamy hand and body lotion.v Slather on the Sunscreen: Sunscreen isn’t just for summertime. Winter sun – combined with snow glare – can still damage your skin. Try applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen to your face and your hands (if they’re exposed) about 30 minutes before going outside. Reapply frequently if you stay outside a long time. Even if you’re not hitting the slopes, you still need the protection of a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more. v Avoid Wet Gloves and Socks: Wet socks and gloves can irritate your skin and cause itching, cracking, sores, or even a flare-up of eczema.v Hydrate for Your Health: Drinking water helps your skin stay young looking. In fact, it’s a myth. Water plays an important role in keeping your skin alive. A good amount of water helps in retaining the moisture of your skin as well keeping skin disorders at bay.v Grease Up Your Feet: Painful, cracked heels are a common skin condition, especially in winter. They are often caused by dry skin. Some minty foot lotions are lovely in the hot summer months, but during the winter, your feet need stronger stuff. Try finding lotions that contain petroleum jelly or glycerine instead. And use exfoliants to get the dead skin off periodically; that helps any moisturizers you use to sink in faster and deeper. v Use Super-Fatted Soap: If your facial skin is uncomfortably dry, avoid using harsh peels, masks, and alcohol-based toners or astringents, all of which can strip vital oil from your skin. Clearing away dead skin cells lets a moisturizer better penetrate dry skin. The same products that keep your face looking fresh in the spring and summer may cause skin problems during winter. Choose a gentle, super-fatted, fragrance-free soap bar or liquid for cleansing. Super-fatted means the soap is loaded with oils.v Ban Superhot Baths: Sure, soaking in a burning-hot bath feels great after frolicking out in the cold. But the intense heat of a hot shower or bath actually breaks down the lipid barriers in the skin, which can lead to a loss of moisture. A shower can add water to your skin — as long as you keep it short and sweet. Long, hot showers can actually draw water from your skin
Let your fingers do the walking and walk/run to JUDY BARNES BAKER’S BLOG. I have both her cookbooks, Carb Wars and Nourished and honestly have to say they are the most beautiful low-carb cookbooks that I own. Judy is a super-talented cookbook author, very professional, and will be honoring us with a mini-cookbook in the Low-Carbing Among Friends series, volume 3 along with several other authors. Judy would have been with us from the beginning but has been extremely busy with her latest coobkook, Nourished, and had to decline. If you don’t already have her cookbooks, you definitely are missing out.
